In Bruges

Over the half term break, I surprised my Mr with a trip to the beautiful town of Bruges. Our first ever holiday abroad together was in fact a city break to Brussels, where we had such a wonderful time that we have been eager to return to Belgium ever since.

We filled our three days enjoying all the finest things that Bruges has to offer: stunning architecture, exquisite chocolate, delicious waffles and, of course, quaffable beer in abundance! We spent the majority of our time simply strolling, admiring the chocolate box buildings and soaking up the atmosphere...

We stayed at the excellent Grand Hotel Casselbergh - lovely traditional décor; spacious, spotless rooms (with fluffy robes and complimentary l'Occitane products) and a superb breakfast.

Every building is a thing of beauty in its own right. It was such a pleasure just to be out in the fresh air, taking it all in.

The famous Belfry...

The Market place.

Ambling and boating.

  Eating!

Dumon ~ the best chocolatier in Belgium.

Best. Waffle. Ever.

Hot chocolate with a cheeky dash of rum!

Warming and swotting up with my guide book.

Such a great idea ~ a little sampler tray featuring four of Beligum's finest beers and accompanying snacks.

My favourite:

Moules - always a must in any coastal country!

Cocktails and cards in the hotel lounge.

Incredible dinner at the Gault & Millau recommended restaurant, Bonte B

Yummy red cabbage and pear filled meatballs at the amusingly named Balls & Glory.

Our final dessert before departure. Sigh.

As you can see, a rather over-indulgent holiday! Where are your favourtite locations for a break away..?
